• Provenance Key For New Wheeler’s Menu

Sourcing the best quality ingredients from trusted suppliers has been key for the new menu at Marco Pierre White's Wheerler's of St James's Oyster Bar & Grill Room.

The original Wheeler's brand was established in 1856 and is credited as being the 'world's oldest and finest fish brand'.

Ensuring that the new Wheeler's menu includes a deference to its past, Pierre White and his team have not only evolved the menu into something today's discerning restaurant goers want from an elegant meal out but have made sure that the fish (and meat) served comes from sustainable and responsible sources.

As you'd expect from a restaurant that includes oysters in its name, one of the new dishes is Colchester Oyster Rockefeller, Antoine's Restaurant 1899 and pays tribute to the oldest family-run restaurant in the USA and where Oysters Rockefeller were originally invented.

New to the Hors D'Oeuvres section is a Cocktail of Cornish Crab, Mr White's Morecombe Bay Potted Shrimps and Michel Bourdin's Kipper & Whiskey Pate in homage to the legendary chef who was in charge of establishments such as The Connaught Hotel in London.

The Wheeler's Signature dishes have also received an update and includes Grilled Whole Lobster L'Escargot while new to the Wheeler's Classics are Fried Fillet of Scottish Cod, Mr Walsh's Fish Pie and Omelette Arnold Bennet which includes quality smoked haddock.

Understanding that not everyone wants fish, Pierre White has added a delicious selection of 35-day aged steaks including 6oz Fillet on the bone, 10oz Sirloin on the bone, a double sirloin for two and a 24oz Cote de Beouf.

There is also a nod to the rise in customers looking for vegan and vegetarian dishes with Creamy Polenta Italian Cheese, Gnocchi with fresh tomato sauce and Grilled Aubergines a la Nicoise being added to the menu.

But it's the fish that stars and comes from Direct Seafoods which is not only committed to sustainability but works within the industry to guide its customers towards sustainable and ethical choices.

Jason Everett, executive head chef for MPW Restaurants said: "Marco Pierre White is one of the world's most famous, charismatic and best-known names in the restaurant sector.

"He has now given this long-established institution a new lease of life by re-working the classic seafood recipes of the original Wheeler's into something today's diners are looking for. It was vital that the fish used in the kitchen is of the highest quality and also comes from a trusted and well-respected supplier.

"Core to the Wheeler's principle is to serve good food that's accompanied with fine wine in the company of great friends.

"This new menu reflects that principle and is perfectly balanced with a fantastic selection of classic, new, fish, meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. You can certainly see Marco's influence and we look forward to welcoming guests to try out this delicious new take on the legendary Wheeler's dining experience."
