A lingering memory of his beloved mother that inspired, lifted, drove him on and pushed him forward to become the UK's greatest ever chef is why Marco Pierre White is underlying to families from across the UK to make sure their own mothers are made to feel special on 22nd March.
With happy recollections of holidays with his mother, Maria Rosa Gallina, in Genoa where he picked fruit from the trees, fished in streams and made early morning walks to collect goat's milk from a nearby farm, memories of sitting in the kitchen at home, watching her cook simple but delicious pasta dishes (throwing in olive oil, sweating down onions, adding tomato puree and creating the comforting scent of those combinations), Marco knows all too well the need to make the most of having someone special you can love, appreciate and have around as a guiding light.
But having lost his mother when he was just six, the famed chef wants families to make sure their own mothers know how much they mean.
He said: "Mums are always running around after everyone else and often don't take any time for themselves. So looking after your mum and showing how much you appreciate her on 22nd March will mean so much while giving her a day to remember."
Understanding that not everyone will be able to replicate dishes that made him a household name during his culinary heyday, the famed restaurateur has devised a number of special three-course menus across MPW Restaurants that have been inspired by memories of his mother and which he hopes will delight and surprise in equal measure on Mothering Sunday.
Jason Everett, executive head chef at MPW Restaurants said: "Marco has been very specific and has devised a series of menus that are the perfect accompaniment to a relaxing family meal out.
"Marco said in his book 'The Devil in the Kitchen' that it wasn't until he was 31-years-old before he could analyse the tremendous impact of his mother's life, and death, upon his own.
"Treating your mum to a nice meal out in a relaxed environment is a lovely way to show how much you care and is a great way to get the whole family together allowing everyone to sit back, relax and enjoy the day.
"We're in the business of feeding people in a great environment where the service is of the highest standard. That's why we'll be pulling out all the stops so that from the moment guests arrive they are made to feel special, especially the mums."
